Common Irregular Past Tense Verbs in English

Tidak semua kata kerja bahasa Inggris mengikuti aturan -ed untuk simple past. Kata kerja tidak beraturan (irregular verbs) punya bentuk past tersendiri yang harus dihafal satu per satu.

I went to the market. (bukan "goed")

Pola yang membantu menghafal

Meskipun tidak ada aturan tunggal, beberapa kata kerja irregular punya pola yang mirip, jadi lebih mudah dikelompokkan:

• -ought/-aught: bring → brought, buy → bought, catch → caught, teach → taught
• vowel change ee → e: meet → met, feed → fed
• tidak berubah sama sekali: put → put, cut → cut, hit → hit, read → read (hanya pelafalannya berubah)

Negatif dan pertanyaan tetap memakai did

Meskipun bentuk past-nya tidak beraturan, kata kerja irregular tetap memakai did/didn't untuk negatif dan pertanyaan — dan kembali ke bentuk dasar setelahnya.

• I didn't go to the party. (bukan "didn't went")
• Did she see the movie? (bukan "Did she saw")

Kesalahan umum

• ❌ "I goed to school." → ✅ "I went to school."
• ❌ "She didn't went home." → ✅ "She didn't go home." (setelah didn't, kembali ke bentuk dasar 'go')
• ❌ "He buyed a new car." → ✅ "He bought a new car."
• ❌ "Did you saw him?" → ✅ "Did you see him?"

Tidak ada jalan pintas untuk kata kerja irregular selain menghafalkannya secara bertahap — mulai dari yang paling sering muncul dalam percakapan sehari-hari.
