Perbedaan There Is dan There Are

There is dan there are digunakan untuk mengatakan bahwa sesuatu ada.

There is a book on the table. (Ada buku di atas meja.)

Gunakan there is untuk kata benda tunggal dan tak terhitung, dan there are untuk kata benda jamak.

There is (tunggal / tak terhitung)

• There is a cat in the garden.
• There is some milk in the fridge.
• There is a problem with this plan.

There are (jamak)

• There are three chairs in the room.
• There are many students in this class.

Bentuk negatif

Tambahkan not setelah is/are (atau gunakan bentuk singkatnya).

• There isn't a car in the driveway.
• There aren't any apples left.

Pertanyaan

Pindahkan there setelah is/are.

• Is there a bank near here?
• Are there any tickets left?

There is/are vs It is

Jangan bingung antara there is (menyatakan keberadaan) dengan it is (mendeskripsikan).

• ❌ It is a book on the table.
• ✅ There is a book on the table. (It's blue.)

Kesalahan umum

• ❌ "There is many people at the party." → ✅ "There are many people at the party." (many = jamak, butuh are)
• ❌ "There have a cat." → ✅ "There is a cat." (jangan gunakan have dengan there)
• ❌ "There is a bank?" bukan pertanyaan yang benar — ingat untuk memindahkan there setelah is: "Is there a bank?"
