Personal Pronouns and Possessive Adjectives in English

Pronomina (kata ganti) menggantikan nama orang atau benda supaya kalimat tidak diulang-ulang. Bahasa Inggris punya tiga jenis yang sering tertukar: subject pronouns, object pronouns, dan possessive adjectives.

Subject pronouns (I, you, he...)

Dipakai sebagai subjek kalimat — yang melakukan aksi.

he / she / it	He works at a bank.
we	We are students.
they	They live near here.

Object pronouns (me, you, him...)

Dipakai sebagai objek — yang menerima aksi.

Object pronoun	Contoh

you	I saw you yesterday.
him / her / it	She likes him.
us	They invited us.
them	I gave them the keys.

• ❌ Him is my friend. → ✅ He is my friend. (subjek, bukan objek)
• ❌ Give the book to I. → ✅ Give the book to me.

Possessive adjectives (my, your, his...)

Dipakai sebelum kata benda untuk menunjukkan kepemilikan.

Possessive adjective	Contoh
my	This is my phone.
your	Is this your bag?
his / her / its	Her name is Sarah.
our	Our house is small.
their	Their car is red.

Perhatikan: its (tanpa apostrof) berarti "milik benda/hewan itu", sedangkan it's (dengan apostrof) adalah singkatan dari "it is".

• The dog wagged its tail.
• It's raining today. (= it is raining)

Possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his...)

Berbeda dari possessive adjective, possessive pronoun berdiri sendiri, tanpa kata benda setelahnya — biasanya menggantikan "possessive adjective + noun" yang sudah disebut.

• This phone is mine. (= my phone)
• Is that bag yours? (= your bag)
• That car is theirs. (= their car)

Kesalahan umum

• ❌ "Me and my friend went to the mall." → ✅ "My friend and I went to the mall." (subjek pakai "I", dan biasanya diri sendiri disebut terakhir)
• ❌ "This is my's book." → ✅ "This book is mine." atau "This is my book."
• ❌ "The cat licked it's paw." → ✅ "The cat licked its paw." (possessive, bukan singkatan "it is")

Latihan terbaik adalah memperhatikan posisi kata dalam kalimat — subjek, objek, atau sebelum kata benda — dan itu akan menentukan pronomina mana yang benar.
