Conditional Sentence Tipe 3: If + Past Perfect, Would Have

Third conditional membicarakan hasil imajiner di masa lalu — sesuatu yang sebenarnya tidak terjadi.

If I had studied, I would have passed the exam. (Kalau aku belajar, aku pasti lulus ujian.)

Struktur

If + past perfect, ... would have + past participle

• If she had left earlier, she would have caught the train.

Kapan menggunakannya

Gunakan third conditional untuk membayangkan masa lalu yang berbeda — hasil sebenarnya adalah kebalikannya.

• If it hadn't rained, we would have gone to the beach. (hujan turun, jadi kami tidak pergi)
• If I had known about the meeting, I would have come. (aku tidak tahu, jadi aku tidak datang)

Modal verb lainnya

Kamu juga bisa menggunakan could have atau might have sebagai pengganti would have, untuk kemampuan atau kemungkinan.

• If he had trained harder, he could have won the race.
• If we had left earlier, we might have avoided the traffic.

Bentuk negatif

• If I hadn't missed the bus, I wouldn't have been late.
• She would have called you if she hadn't lost her phone.

Second vs third conditional

Second conditional membayangkan sekarang yang berbeda; third conditional membayangkan masa lalu yang berbeda.

• If I had more time, I would travel more. (sekarang — second conditional)
• If I had had more time last year, I would have traveled more. (masa lalu — third conditional)

Kesalahan umum

• ❌ "If I would have known, I would have told you." → ✅ "If I had known, I would have told you." (jangan gunakan would have di klausa if)
• ❌ "If she had study, she would pass." → ✅ "If she had studied, she would have passed." (kedua bagian butuh bentuk yang benar)
• ❌ "If I have seen him, I would have said hi." → ✅ "If I had seen him, I would have said hi."
