Struktur dasar
Wh- question umumnya mengikuti pola:
Wh- word + auxiliary verb (do/does/did/is/are...) + subject + main verb
- What do you do on weekends?
- Where does she work?
- When did they arrive?
- Why is he crying?
Kalau kalimatnya memakai kata kerja to be, tidak perlu do/does — subjek dan to be langsung dibalik:
- Where is the station?
- How are you feeling today?
Wh- word sebagai subjek
Kalau kata tanya itu sendiri adalah subjek kalimat (biasanya "who" atau "what"), tidak perlu auxiliary verb do/does — struktur kalimatnya tetap seperti kalimat biasa.
- Who called you? (bukan "Who did call you?")
- What happened?
Variasi how
"How" bisa digabung dengan kata sifat lain untuk pertanyaan yang lebih spesifik:
- How much does it cost? (uncountable, harga/jumlah)
- How many brothers do you have? (countable, jumlah)
- How old are you? (usia)
- How long does the trip take? (durasi)
- How often do you exercise? (frekuensi)
Kesalahan umum
- ❌ "Where you are going?" → ✅ "Where are you going?" (subjek dan auxiliary harus dibalik)
- ❌ "What means this word?" → ✅ "What does this word mean?"
- ❌ "Who did call you?" → ✅ "Who called you?" (who sebagai subjek, tidak butuh "did")
